Tentative 2013 Schedule of Civil War Reenactments & Appearances

B.S.A. VENTURE CREW 1861 FIFE & DRUM CORPS / FIELD MUSIC 1ST P.R.V.C.

(Formerly Troop and Venture Crew 53 Fife & Drum Corps founded January 2004)

This is an initial look at a possible events for the for 2013 schedule. All event invitations have not yet been finally accepted. Other invitations are certain to be received. Additional practices and FDC meetings are not included. While Venture Crew 1861/1st PRVC keeps a busy schedule, FDC members are not expected to attend every event.  This is a TENTATIVE schedule: Please call to confirm events before attending.

 

Jan. 27            Fife & Drum Pratice and Venture Committee/FDC Parents Meeting at the Cassidy's. 2-4 PM

 

February 3       Victorian Dance Ensemble DANCE CLASS Sunday, National Civil War Museum; and Fife and Drum Practice; 2:00  PM dance, 4 PM FDC practice fthen home in time for the big game

 

February 10     Practice at the Cassidy's with Special guest fife instructor Donald Heminitz! Sunday 2:00-4:00PM.  Don is our former Fife Instructor, currently a member of the famous Middlsex County Volunteers Fife and Drum   see http://www.mcvfifesanddrums.org

 

March 2          Cub Scout Pack 83 Blue and Gold Banquet and Crossover Ceremony, Lancasster Moravian Church , Leola PA;  4-6 PM

 

March 3          Victorian Dance Ensemble DANCE CLASS Sunday, National Civil War Museum; and Fife and Drum Practice; 2:00  PM dance, 4 PM FDC practice followed by Pizza

 

March 23        10th Annual Preservation Ball (Saturday evening)  We will play on Capitol steps as guests enter abt 6:00 PM, then join dance and play again at intermission—Crew girls in CW dresses: boys in uniform

 

April 19- 21     Neshaminy Civil War Weekend, Neshaminy State Park, 3401 State Road Bensalem, PA   www.neshaminycwevent.org

 

April 27           "Buffalo Soldiers Cemetery" Rededication with graves of African American Soldiers of the Civil War and Indian Wars. 1200 block of Duke St, Lancaster; 1PM on Saturday.  Cleanup by Comcast employees and BSA Troop 83 Leola.   The Field Music 1st PRVC will participate in the re-dedication Ceremony jointly with the Red Rose Veteran’s Honor Guard.

 

May 3-5           150th Anniv. Battle of Chancellorsville,   Spotsylvania Co. VA -- a major 150th Anniversary event  http://battleofchancellorsville.com/

 

May 11          56th Annual ODC Chicken BBQ Event & 8th Annual Craft & Vendor Fair benifiting  Occupational Deveopment Center 649 Martha Ave,Lancaster--(10:30am-5pm)  guest appearence time TBA

 

 May 27th         MEMORIAL DAY PARADES

                        Kennett Square Parade and Cemetery Service (Monday morning)  

                               Leave    Maytown abt 7:30 am; Step off at 10 am. Lunch provided 

                        Maytown American Legion Parade , Step-off at 5:00 pm

                              Cassidy’s home is open for rest and refreshments between events

 

May 30th         Lancaster SUVCW Camp 19 -124th annual  Memorial Day Service, Lancaster cemetery, 205 E. Lemon Street, Lancaster, PA at 6:30 PM at  GAR and Reynolds plots (School night-- 1st PRVC ensemble to attend if possible)

 

June1              Willow Valley Parade  Saturday transportation TBA ;form up at 9:30 place TBA;  step off at 10:30; refreshments

 

June 7-9            Nat’l Civil War Field Music School, Holcombe-Jimison Farmstead, Lamberville, N.J.  just across the bridge from New Hope, PA http://www.nationalcivilwarfieldmusicschool.com/    

 

June 15              INVITED "Juneteenth" Parade in Columbia PA  (Juneteenth is the oldest known celebration commemorating the ending of slavery in the United States.  Dating back to 1865, it was on June 19th that the Union soldiers landed at Galveston, Texas with news that the war had ended and that the enslaved were now free.)

 

June 28-29         40th Annual GBPA Civil War Collectibles Show, Eisenhower Convention Center (Sport complex), Gettysburg --  one day guest performance

 

June 28               150th Anniv Burning of the Wrightsville Bridge- “Prelude to Gettysburg”; Friday Evening; invited to events over the three days including Burning of the Bridge on June 28th TBA  

 

June 29               INVITED  Columia Historical Society "Prelude to Gettysburg"  encampment and living history

 

June 28 & June 30- July 4   Confederate Medicine in the Civil War, Daniel Lady Farm Gettysburg   Special event return from Culp's Hill  abt 3 PM Friday; PRVC appearence on july 1st.  We are invited to perform throughout the week as a Confederate Fife & Drum Corps of Johnson’s Division. This is a major national event.  

 

                           ALSO INVITED to perform at the Gettysburg Outlet Mall for 1 1/2 hrs

 

June 30               Seminary Ridge Museum preview-- Performance and Living History Presentation (Sunday evening)  7-8:30 PM

 

July 1                  Grand Opening Ceremony, Seminary Ridge Museum. Lutheran Seminary Gettysburg   (advertized 1st PRVC  performance Monday 9:30 - 9:55 AM, ceromony begins at 10:00 AM ( same day performance with Daniel Lady Farm event)

 

July 4-7               150th Anniversary Battle of Gettysburg, Gettysburg Anniversary Committee http://www.gettysburgreenactment.com/   This will be our 6th year attending this event. We may pitch tents on July 3rd 

 

Sept. 13-15          New Birth of Freedom Council BSA commemoration of the 150th with a weekend-long event at Gettysburg National Military Park with camping on the adjacent Spangler farm.

 

Sept 28-29           Lancaster Historical Society Civil War Weekend -- President Buchannan's Wheatland  (esp Candlelight tour on Saturday evening;)

 

Oct 18-20           149th Anniversary Battle of Cedar Creek      

 

Oct ? TBA          US Army “Old Guard” Fife and Drum Corps JR Workshop Ft Myer Arlington

 

Nov. 22-24          Remembrance Day Weekend:150th Anniversary of the Gettysburg Address (Note Date  & Dance location Change)
