2017 TENTATIVE SCHEDULE

Civil War Reenactments & Appearances

B.S.A. VENTURE CREW 1861 FIFE & DRUM CORPS

Portraying the FIELD MUSIC 1ST P.R.V.C. and Johnson’s Division ANV

 

These events are proposed for the 2017 schedule.  Some events will be dropped and others added as the schedule is reconsidered.  Light Italized print indicates important nonperformance events on schedule.  This document is based on last year’s schedule and current invitations. Additional invitations will be considered as they are received.  Practices and regular FDC meetings are not included.  In general, Venture Crew advancement meetings and practices are held on Mondays at 6:00 PM at the Zion Lutheran Church in Leola PA (Call about Summer schedule).

Jan 7      2017 USV Annual Meeting Gettysburg Hotel, One Lincoln Square, Gettysburg PA 17325.  Reenactment schedules will be discussed – (Mr & Mrs C. will attend annual meeting representing FDC-- all FDC members are invited)

 

Jan 14    WITF Second Season of “Mercy Street” Preview and panel discussion with show Producers, Majestic Theater Gettysburg at 1:00 PM performance

 

Jan 21     2017 PRVC BATTALION Annual Meeting (Saturday) 11:30 AM - 3:00 PM; O’Rorke’s Gettysburg PA 17325  Reenactment schedules will be discussed.  (Mr C. will attend—Crew has important conflict)

Jan 21    Tony Astarita Eagle Court of Honor  Hamilton Club of Lancaster, Saturday, 2-4 pm

March 25  Civil War Preservation Ball in the Rotunda of the Harrisburg Capitol Building. Venture Crew typically plays on the stairs as guests enter and at intermission. 7-10:00 PM  FDC plays at 6:15 PM play as guests enter and for intermission.  Benifits the GBPA PA Gettysburg Monument Fund

 

March 27  BSA Troop 83 and Venture Crew 1861 Court of Honor.  ( Monday evening-date corrected)  Bareville Fire Hall Leola PA  6:30 PM

 

April 21-23   Venturing Jamboree Prep Weekend

 

May 5-7       Venturing Jamboree Prep Weekend  

 

May 19-21   Battle of New Market VA--a USV Event this year.  8895 George Collin Parkway, New Market, Virginia

 

May 27       Mountville VFW Memorial Day Parade, Saturday step off at 10:00 AM.

 

May 29th   MEMORIAL DAY PARADES, etc.

  • Historic Kennett Square Memorial Day Parade -step off at 10:00 AM, followed by Union Cemetery Service;  Lunch at the American Legion;
  • Venture Crew 1861 Court of Honor and refeshments between parades at the Cassidys' in Maytown;
  • Maytown American Legion Parade, Venture Crew 1861 leads off & carries the American Legion Colors for this parade! Step-off 4:00 PM;

 

June 23-25  National Civil War Field Music School, Fort McHenry,Baltimore  MD  http://www.nationalcivilwarfieldmusicschool.com/  (same dates for the GBPA Collectors Show in Gettysburg)

 

June 30, July 1-3   154th Anniversary Battle of Gettysburg --Gettysburg Anniversary Committee see http://www.gettysburgreenactment.com/   We will provide camp and field duties for the Union HQ and perforances in Activities Tent #2 in the Sutler's area.  This will be a USV and PRVC Event this year!

July 19 - 28 National Scout Jamboree at Summit Bechtel Reserve, Jean, West Virginia

Aug 19      Venture Crew and Tr 83 Canoe Skills Part II - Whitewater (limited to Part I participants and Scouts with Canoeing MB) Leave from Zion Lutheran to location at Susquehanna River

 

Sept 2-3 Labor Day Weekend, "The Aftermath"  GBPA Daniel Lady Farm, Gettysburg -- medical weekend  (1st PRVC Field Music appeared along with Patriot Daughters of Lancaster on Saturday Sept 2; 10 AM- 4PM

 

Sept. 8- 10    “PA LUAU” Venturing Leadership Training Weekend, Camp Tuckahoe,  400 Tuckahoe Road, Dillsburg, PA  17019

 

Sept. 11      Troop 83 Flag Retirement Ceremony and 9-11 Remembrance with Venture Crew 1861 Fife & Drum Corps.  Upper Leacock Fire Company, Leola PA; assemble at 6:00 PM. Ceremony begins at 6:30 PM

 

Sept. 16     Restoration of Civil War Gravesites, St Mary's Cemetary Lancater PA (Eagle Scout Project of Nathaniel Johnston)  Details TBA

 

Sept 23   Readshaw's Ride for Preservation, GBPA and ABATE, Harrisburg Capitol to Battlefield Harley in Gettysburg 11:00 AM- 3:00 PM.  Benfits the GBPA Daniel Lady Farm and PA Gettysburg Monument Fund

 

Sept 25    BSA Troop 83 and Venture Crew 1861 Court of Honor(Monday evening) Covered Dish Supper, Zion Lutheran Church, Leola.  Details TBA

Dec 2     Victorian Holidays at Landis Vally Farm Museum (PA Historical & Museum Commission) with Civil War Dancing,  CW Reenactors in Winter quarters. Music appreciated

 

Dec 3     Marietta Christmas House Tour- benefits Marietta Preservation Associates; (Sun. 11:00 AM- 7 :00 PM, Fife & Drum traditionally performs 1-4 PM) www.mariettarestoration.org   

 

Dec 9      The Inns of Gettysburg Annual Holiday House Tour at the Daniel Lady Farm;  noon to 5 PM

BSA Venture Crew 1861 is chartered by the

Gettysburg Battlefield Preservation Association (GBPA.org)

and is a member of the 1st Regiment, U.S. Volunteers and

the Pennsylvania Reserve Battalion (PRVC, Inc.) reenactment organizations
